Open House - Celebrating Chinese Language Day
On April 9, in order to celebrate the United Nations Chinese Language Day, the Arizona Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine held the Open House of Confucius Institute.
This open day event showcases Chinese culture to the local people in the form of calligraphy displays, free medical consultations with traditional Chinese medicine, and traditional musical instrument performance. On the day of the event, nearly 200 people from various ethnic groups came to participate in the event. They experienced the essence of traditional Chinese culture, and the charm of traditional Chinese musical instruments, and experienced traditional Chinese medicine treatments such as ear acupuncture, Tuina, cupping, and Guasha.
The date for the Chinese day was selected from Guyu ("Rain of Millet"), which is the 6th of 24 solar terms in the traditional East Asian calendars, to pay tribute to Cangjie. Cangjie is a very important figure in ancient China, claimed to be an official historian of the Yellow Emperor and the inventor of Chinese characters. Legend has it that he had four eyes and four pupils, and that when he invented the characters, the deities and ghosts cried and the sky rained millet. From then on, Chinese people celebrate the day Guyu in honour of Cangjie. In the Gregorian calendar, it usually begins around April 20.
当地时间4月9日，为庆祝联合国中文日，亚利桑那中医孔子学院举办了“孔子学院开放日”活动。
此次开放日活动，采取书法展示、中医义诊和传统乐器演奏的形式向当地民众展示中国文化。活动当天， 有各个族群近200人来参加活动，近距离感受了中国传统文化的精髓，中国传统乐器的魅力，并同时体验了耳针、推拿、拔罐和刮痧等传统中医治疗。
2010年，联合国新闻部将每年4月20日定为“联合国中文日”( United Nations Chinese Language Day)，以纪念“中华文字始祖”仓颉造字的贡献。亚利桑那中医孔子学院自成立以来，致力于搭建推广汉语和中国文化的平台，开展形式多样、内容新颖的中国语言文化推广活动，以服务于当地汉语教学和中文项目，增进中美两国人民的互相了解，促进双方在各领域展开交流与合作。
